Once Upon a Baby Shower: My Storybook Themed Baby Shower for my Baby Boy

I’m so grateful that my mom offered to host a beautiful baby shower for me in my hometown of Wheeling, WV so that I could celebrate our baby boy with my family in WV and lifelong friends.

My mom created a magical storybook themed because of my love of books and reading. I always had my nose in a book as a kid, and I studied literature in college. While a Shakespeare themed would’ve been interesting, I loved the ideas of starting a new chapter with some childhood favorites like “Where the Sidewalk Ends.”

The Decor: A Pastel Dream

I love soft pastels so much, especially for baby things. My mom chose a color palette of butter yellow, baby blues, and sage/eucalyptus green.

My mom used the cookies and small vases of flowers to add little details throughout the decor. She also got adorable bookmarks with the tales of Peter Rabbit and placed them on each plate with the cookies, which was so sweet.

For signage, my mom’s friend created signs that looked like a fairytale with little woodland creatures. I loved the Mom-osa bar and new chapter sign so much.

She made a beautiful photo backdrop with pastel balloons and a gorgeous bamboo chair for me to open gifts.

Sweet Details: Food & Treats

My favorite details were the sweet treats. The cookies in the shapes of my favorite children’s books were so nice and the cake shaped like books was gorgeous.

My mom used the cookies to decorate each plate.

For food, we had little chicken salad sandwiches, salads, crudite, and a charcuterie board.

Shower Favors

My mom found custom pastel soaps on Etsy where they added storybook stickers to the packaging.

She also shared the storybook themed bookmarks and cookies for shower favors.

For prizes, she shared honey that her neighbor makes, candles, and full size soaps and lotions.

Games & Activities

My mom set up a few fun games and activities. When you walked in, she had a “Wishing Tree.” She found little pieces of paper that had storybook quotes and characters from Peter Pan and Dr. Seuss for guests to write well wishes for our baby boy and hang them on the tree.

We also had a few multiple choice games like guess when the baby get their eye color and how often do babies scream. It was fun to see how little we knew about babies.

My favorite game was one my mom made up. She filled a couple balloons with dates close to my due date and played a game of “When will Tori Pop?” Everyone popped their balloons at once, which was fun chaos, and the winning dates got prizes.

It meant the world to me to celebrate with lifelong friends and family in a setting that felt so personal and meaningful. I’m incredibly thankful to my mom for creating such a beautiful day filled with love, laughter, and a whole lot of storybook charm. If you’re planning a baby shower or just dreaming up one for the future, I hope this post gives you a little inspiration and a lot of joy.
